Today we are going to share with you all just a few sororities we have worked with and a little about their philanthropies! Photos and excerpts were submitted by each sorority! When you shop on WeartoGiv, you are helping to support these causes.
University of California Los Angeles - Kappa Kappa Gamma
"Our national philanthropy is called Reading is Fundamental, which is a literacy program aimed at children. They provide free books for children in need, as well as hold literacy promoting events and provide resources for other programs, such as Kappa. How our chapter specifically holds our philanthropy event is that we devote one day each year to something we call A Day in the Life. For A Day in the Life, we bus in students grades 1-5 from an underserved community to UCLA and show them "a day in the life" of a college student, as a way to inspire them to go to college as well as serve as role models, since many of them do not have any family members that attend or have attended college. This day includes many different stations, including reading, crafts, games, etc. At the end of the day, each student gets to take home a free book provided by RIF and a free backpack provided by Jansport. It's a really great event and we love doing it!"
University of Central Florida - Kappa Alpha Theta
"Kappa Alpha Theta supports CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates.CASA provides a Guardian Ad Litem to children who have been taken from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or much worse and put into the foster care system. The Guardian becomes the one constant in the child's life as they go through multiple foster care homes and fights for the child's best interest and rights in court. When these children are taken from their homes they are lucky if they leave with a trash bag full of items from their home, although most only leave with the clothes on their back. The Eta Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta hosts a Superhero 5K each year where the funds go to supplying items such as new clothes, school supplies, or even to fund an extra curricular that the child is interested in. Theta is for the child because every child deserves to feel supported and loved."
We are so fortunate to be able to help support these women and their causes!
